Junior Tyler McLaren (Pepperell, Mass.) and senior Nacho Hernando-Angulo (Logrono, Spain) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country team captured Franklin Pierce University's fourth annual Bruce Kirsh Cup on Saturday morning at the Hopkinton (N.H.) Fairgrounds.
While SNHU and Bentley both accumulated 70 points, McLaren's fourth-place showing as the top Penmen finisher bested Ryan Cadorette's 13th-place finish for the Falcons to break the tie.
McLaren completed the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26 minutes, 17.1 seconds, while Hernando-Angulo followed at 26:17.5. Both runners took it easy over the opening three miles, pacing the rest of the team before turning it loose to make up time and settle into their final spots.
Junior Andrew Tuttle (Alton, N.H.) was the next Penmen finisher, placing 10th in a time of 26:41.6
Freshman Michael Moreno (Houston, Texas) checked in at 25th in 27:27.0, while senior Jacob Wormald (Pelham, N.H.) rounded out the SNHU harriers in 32nd at 27:36.7.
Sophomore Chris Burrill (Exeter, N.H.) and freshman Adam Courtemanche (Greenville, R.I.) placed 35th and 36th, with respective marks of 27:50.3 and 28:05.0.
Freshman Tyler Sholes (Franklin, Conn.) crossed the finish line at 28:36.9, with sophomore John Sanborn (Chichester, N.H.) traversing the terrain in a time of 29:27.7. Junior Rafy Castillo (Bow, N.H.) completed the Penmen contingent in 29:56.1.
Notes:
- Wilmington (Del.) University's Isaac Ndirangu won the event in 25:49.1.
- The race featured 127 student-athletes from 11 competing institutions.
