Senior Nacho Hernando-Angulo (Logrono, Spain) finished second overall to pace the Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country team in its season opener at the 2016 Northeast-10 Preview Meet at Stonehill College.
Hernando-Angulo turned in a time of 25:07, which was more than 35 seconds faster than his next closest competitor. He maintained a 5:04 mile pace, and was less than nine seconds behind the event winner.
Junior Andrew Tuttle (Alton, N.H.) was next across the finish line for the Penmen after clocking a 26:39, which was good enough for No. 13 overall. Senior Jacob Wormald (Pelham, N.H.) checked in third for Southern New Hampshire in 27:14, while freshman Adam Courtemanche (Greenville, R.I.) turned in a 27:23 performance in the first meet of his career.
Freshman Michael Moreno (Houston, Texas) traversed the terrain in 27:53 to round out SNHU's top-five before sophomore Chris Burrill (Exeter, N.H.) posted an official time of 28:06 to slot in sixth. Freshman Tyler Sholes (Franklin, Conn.) navigated the course in 29:29 before junior Rafy Castillo (Bow, N.H.) completed the Penmen contingent in 30:26.
Notes:
- American International College's Leakey Kipkosgei finished first overall in 24:58.
- The race consisted of 91 student-athletes from seven institutions.
- Hernando-Angulo notched his fourth top-two finish in eight career races. The senior has six top-five performances, and been Southern New Hampshire's top runner in every race he has competed in.
What's Next:
The Penmen return to action on September 17 when they head to the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire for the Bruce Kirsh Cup.
