When and Where: September 4, 2016 – Charlotte, N.C. (Queens Sports Complex)
Score: Queens University of Charlotte 2, Southern New Hampshire University 1
Records: Queens 1-0, SNHU 1-1

Junior Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) scored her second goal in as many games, but the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team was unable to overcome a two-goal, first half deficit as the Penmen fell to Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday, 2-1.

Despite outshooting the hosts 7-3 in the first half and holding a 3-2 edge in penalty corners, SNHU found itself down by a pair 18 minutes into the contest. The Royals jumped out to an early lead after Mazvita Mtisi found the back of the cage just 46 seconds into the game. Queens doubled its advantage midway through the opening stanza when Mtisi set up Hanna Nechay to make it 2-0 with 16:58 remaining in the first.

Southern New Hampshire was able to finally crack the scoreboard late in the second half, as Taylor notched her second of the season. Taylor took a feed from classmate Erin Frost (East Andover, N.H.) to make it a one-goal game with 4:13 remaining in regulation, but it was as close as the Penmen would get. SNHU had a chance to knot the score when it worked a penalty corner with 10 seconds to play, but the Penmen were unable to get a shot through Queens' goalkeeper Miranda Childers.

Childers earned the win for the Royals after stopping four of the five Southern New Hampshire shots that went on frame. Junior Alexis Soucy (Windsor, Maine) started in goal for the Penmen and stopped one shot in the first half before sophomore Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) handled the final 35 minutes of action.
