BOX SCORE

When and Where: October 10, 2017 – Pleasantville, N.Y. (Pace Stadium)
Score: No. 6 Pace University 1, Southern New Hampshire University 0
Records: SNHU 5-7 (2-6 Northeast-10), No. 6 Pace 12-1 (6-1 Northeast-10)

Junior Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) stopped seven shots, but a penalty stroke goal in the 52nd minute propelled sixth-ranked Pace University past Southern New Hampshire University, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Pace Stadium.

The two sides battled through a scoreless first half, as Rennie kicked aside six shots and her counterpart, Lesly Sanchez Alvarez, maintained a clean sheet with four saves of her own. After Rennie stopped the only shot of the opening 15-plus minutes, the Setters were awarded a penalty stroke with 18:26 left to play in regulation. Halley Rose took the stroke for Pace, and she flicked a shot to the left side of the cage for her fourth goal of the season to stake the hosts to a 1-0 advantage.

It would prove to be all the offense either side could muster, as the Setters went without a shot on goal for the remainder of the contest, and Sanchez Alvarez managed to deny bids by both sophomore Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) and freshman Hélène Servais (Brussels, Belgium) in the final five minutes of the second half to keep the Penmen off the board.

Notes:
- Pace managed to hold an 11-8 edge in shots, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
- Southern New Hampshire worked three penalty corners in the second half while yielding just one, while the Setters held a 9-7 lead for the duration of the contest.
- The Penmen fall to 1-4 in one-goal games this season, and have been held without a goal since the second half of their game with Assumption College on September 29, a span of 223:45.
