Powers' Blemish-Free Week Earns him NE10 Co-Pitcher of the Week Honors

NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Mitchell Powers (Portland, Maine) of the seventh-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was selected as the Northeast-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 9, the league office announced Monday.

Powers was stellar in two outings during a 4-1 week for the Penmen. Powers did not allow a run over 12 innings as he gave up six hits, while striking out 16 and walking just two. Powers, who went 1-0, held opponents to a .146 batting average. Powers fired a complete-game, five-hit shutout in a 1-0 win at Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday as he punched out eight and walked two. Powers then relinquished just one hit in three scoreless relief frames as he fanned eight and did not walk a batter, while keeping the game tied in extra innings, which allowed the Penmen to eventually score a 7-6 win against New Haven in 15 innings in game one of a Sunday doubleheader.

In eight appearances, including five starts, this season, Powers is 2-2 with a 1.94 ERA. In 46-and-a-third innings, which include two complete games, Powers has allowed 31 hits, while striking out 53 and walking just 11. He ranks third in the league in strikeouts, complete games and shutouts, as well as fifth in ERA and sixth in strikeouts per game (10.29).

Powers shared the award with Le Moyne College's Sean Pisik, who went 1-0 as he tossed 17 shutout innings over two starts, allowing eight hits, while fanning 17 and walking three.

Powers and the Penmen return to action Wednesday, April 12 (3:30 p.m.) when they take on Saint Michael's College. The next home game for SNHU is Thursday, April 13 (3 p.m.) when it plays host to the University of Bridgeport at Penmen Field.
