Senior Erin Frost (East Andover, N.H.) registered the first hat trick of her career on Saturday, as the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team posted a 5-0 victory over Molloy College at Cedar Creek Park.
Frost added an assist to total seven points, while sophomore Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) tallied three points on a goal and an assist. Senior Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) chipped in with a pair of helpers, and freshman Hélène Servais (Brussels, Belgium) collected the first goal of her career.
The Penmen wasted little time in putting the game out of reach, as they built a two-goal cushion within the game's first eight minutes. van der Doorn opened the scoring three minutes into the opening stanza when she took off down the left side and converted a feed from Frost to make it 1-0. Less than five minutes later, Taylor set up Frost for her first of the year at 7:59 to double the advantage.
The score remained unchanged for the ensuing 12 minutes before Servais found the back of the cage for her first in a Southern New Hampshire uniform. Off a penalty corner, redshirt sophomore Jackie Curtin (Londonderry, N.H.) slid a pass over to Servais, and she tucked one past the Lions' keeper to give the Penmen a 3-0 edge at the end of the first half.
The second half belonged to Frost, as she completed her hat trick with a pair of goals in the final 35 minutes of action. Off a penalty corner, Taylor fed Frost for her second of the afternoon at 37:57 before van der Doorn set her up for the marker that provided the final margin of victory with 1:25 to go.
Junior Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) posted her second consecutive shutout after turning aside the two shots she faced. Tara Byrnes was saddled with the loss in the Molloy cage despite stopping 10 shots.
