MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University Department of Athletics announced Thursday the decision to postpone the opening of Penmen Stadium and the ribbon cutting scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14, due to unforeseen delays in construction.
"This was a difficult decision, but we are confident it is the right one," said SNHU Director of Athletics Anthony Fallacaro. "We set out to build one of the top facilities in the East region, and taking a little more time will ensure we are opening a facility that our student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff and alumni will be proud of."
The new date and time of the ribbon cutting will be announced at a later period, while the building itself is expected to open later in the fall. More information will follow on when the first games and events will take place on the turf, track and courts.
Scheduling Changes (October 14)
The five events that were scheduled to be played at Penmen Stadium on Oct. 14 will all remain at the same times, but will move back to their original venues. Field hockey will play against Stonehill College at 1 p.m., women's soccer will take on Saint Michael's College at 4 p.m. and men's soccer will cap the tripleheader against Franklin Pierce University at 7 p.m., with all three matches taking place at Larkin Field.
Women's and men's tennis will still host Saint Michael's at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, with those matches being played at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
Alumni Games (October 14)
With the move of the Oct. 14 tripleheader to Larkin Field, the day's alumni games will also be shifted. Men's and women's soccer will move their alumni games to the spring, while men's lacrosse will now play at 12 p.m. on the practice field. Baseball's alumni game will still take place under the lights at Penmen Field at 6 p.m.
SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame (October 13)
The SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner will also still take place Friday, Oct. 13 in the upstairs of the Dining Center on the SNHU campus, with cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:15 and the program at 7:30. Tickets are $50 per person or $350 for a table of eight and can be purchased by registering HERE.
Amber (Chandronnait) Robins (women's tennis), Tim Flight (Baseball), Adrian Schippers (men's soccer) and Mark Yeaton (men's basketball) will join 107 other individuals and two teams in the SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame.
