Score: Franklin Pierce University 4, Southern New Hampshire University 1
Records: SNHU 7-4-2 (3-3-1 Northeast-10), FPU 5-11-1 (2-4-1 Northeast-10)
Junior Artem Efimov-Barakov (Khimki, Russia) scored just 11 seconds into the first period on Friday to stake Southern New Hampshire University to an early lead, but Franklin Pierce University tallied four unanswered goals, including three in the third period, to skate past the Penmen ice hockey team, 4-1.
After sophomore DJ Goldstein (Wareham, Mass.) forced a turnover deep in Ravens' defensive end, Efimov-Barakov grabbed the loose puck along the rightwing wall, walked to the faceoff dot and unleashed a wrist shot over the glove of Tom McGuckin to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead.
It turned out to be the only shot McGuckin would allow past him, as the senior netminder steered aside the ensuing 50 Southern New Hampshire shots over the remaining 59:49.
Franklin Pierce battled back to knot the score late in the first, as Travis Geraci collected his first of the year with just over six minutes left in the opening stanza. Evan Marek keyed the play, as he picked a Penmen defender's pocket in the neutral zone before feeding David Wilcox up the leftwing boards. Wilcox fired a shot on frame from the top of the circle that was stopped, but Geraci crashed the crease to put away the rebound.
After a scoreless second period, the Ravens potted what proved to be the game-winner a mere seven seconds into the final frame before adding two insurance markers to seal the victory. Southern New Hampshire won the opening draw of the stanza, but as the Penmen defenseman went back to retrieve the puck at his right faceoff dot, it bounced off his stick and onto the blade of Jonathan Haun, and he promptly tucked it short-side to make it 2-1. Haun factored into the second FPU goal of the period just under 13 minutes later, when he won a draw in the offensive end back to Patrick Gagliardi, who unloaded a slapper through traffic that made its way to the back of the net and doubled the advantage. Alex Lester capped the game's scoring at 14:57 when he collected a feed from Cameron Shepardson on a 3-on-1 in the slot and deposited it into an open net.
Senior Ryan Slatky (Manchester, N.H.) stopped 31 shots in the setback in his first action since January 9.

- Efimov-Barakov's goal was his fifth of the season and 14th of his career.
