STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Huckins had a hand in four of Southern New Hampshire's five goals, as she scored a pair and assisted on two others.
- Seniors Maddie Holt (Seabrook, N.H.) and Jackie Curtin (Londonderry, N.H.) joined freshman Faye Turkmen (Bergen, The Netherlands) with single scores for the Penmen.
- The Southern New Hampshire defense held the Yellow Jackets to just one shot on goal, which senior Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) handled to backstop SNHU to its second consecutive shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Penmen opened the scoring just over six minutes into the opening frame, as Huckins drove down the left side of the circle before curling away from a defender and sending a pass to holt on the doorstep. Holt gathered the feed, turned away from danger and tucked a shot to the back of the cage with 28:52 to play in the first half.
- The score remained unchanged through the duration of the first before Turkmen struck early in the second half to double the Southern New Hampshire advantage. Redshirt-junior Katelin Oberlander (West Yarmouth, Mass.) started a penalty corner with a feed to senior Lindsey Poirier (South Berwick, Maine) at the top of the circle, who then slid a pass over to Turkmen at the top of the circle. Turkmen wound up and unloaded a blast just inside the right post to push the Penmen advantage to a pair at 48:26.
- Huckins put the game out of reach in the 63rd minutes when she tallied back-to-back markers in the span of 45 seconds. Junior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) set up the first goal with a long pass through the defense that hit Huckins in stride at the top of the circle. Huckins cut left to avoid the diving Yellow Jackets' netminder before dodging another sprawling defender, settling the ball and firing it into the open cage. Junior Megan Lewis-Taylor (Nashua, N.H.) set up Huckins second tally, as she ran onto a through ball before one-timing a feed from the right side of the circle to a wide open Huckins in the center. She then settled the pass before quickly snapping a shot past a charging goalkeeper to make it a 4-0 affair with 6:57 remaining.
- Curtin capped the game's scoring just over a minute later when she collected a pass from Huckins in the center of the circle and tagged a reverse-stick shot through traffic that made its way to the back of the cage to provide the final margin of victory.
