Sophomore Tom Marriott (Nottingham, England) notched a goal and an assist, as the third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team shut out in-state rival and sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce University, 3-0, Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinal at Penmen Stadium.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Marriott's goal was his ninth of the year, as he recorded his third three-plus-point performance of the season.
• Graduate student Jonathan Cruickshank (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago) and senior Olafur Einarsson (Esafjordur, Iceland) also found the back of the net in the victory.
• Senior goalkeeper Daniel Milton (Ajax, Ontario) stopped all five shots he faced for his eighth shutout of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Southern New Hampshire put Franklin Pierce back on its heels early, as Cruickshank intercepted a pass in the Ravens' defensive half, dribbled into the top of the box on the left side and ripped a shot just inside the near post to make it 1-0 only 2:14 in.
• The Penmen doubled their lead late in the 21^st minute when Marriott collected a rebound from sophomore Nadjib Chibout (Lyon, France) in the middle of the box and blasted a shot off the right post and into the back of the net.
• SNHU stretched its advantage to 3-0 late in the 67^th minute, as Marriott collected a rebound off a free kick and lofted the ball back into the left side of the box where Einarsson booted a low shot off the turf and into the right side of the net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Jadel Poon-Lewis piled up 11 stops.
• The Penmen owned an 18-11 advantage in shots.
• The Ravens held a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.

NOTES

• Southern New Hampshire wins its second straight and is unbeaten in four of its last five.
• The victory propels the Penmen into the semifinal round where it will travel to take on second-seeded Adelphi University, which posted a 2-0 win against Southern Connecticut to advance.
• The Penmen are now 23-8-5 (.708) all-time in the Northeast-10 Championship, but record their first win since 2015 after bowing out in the quarterfinals each of the last two seasons.
• The win snaps a streak of six straight NE10 postseason meetings between the two teams in which Franklin Pierce advanced.
• The Penmen also avenge a 1-0 loss at Franklin Pierce on Oct. 12.
• Southern New Hampshire improves to 94-14-11 (.836) over its last 119 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
• The Penmen are now 71-8-6 (.871) over their last 85 contests at home, including 8-1-0 at Penmen Stadium.
