NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshmen Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) and Sydney Carney (Northborough, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team were selected as the Northeast-10 Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the period ending Oct. 7, the conference office announced Monday.
Rose, who was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 1, stopped 13 of the 15 shots she faced during a 2-0-0 week for the Penmen. Rose turned away four of five bids in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime victory against Merrimack College and then piled up a career-best nine saves in a 2-1 double-overtime triumph against 19th-ranked Adelphi on Saturday.
Carney scored a goal for two points and it was a massive one, as she found the back of the net in the 104th minute to send SNHU to victory over the nationally-ranked Panthers. It was Carney's second overtime winner of the season.
Rose is second in the NE10 in wins (8), fifth in goals-against average (0.97), sixth in save percentage (.817), eighth in shutouts (3) and ninth in total saves (49). Carney ranks second in the league in assists (6), third in game-winning goals (3) and 10th in points (14).
Rose, Carney and the Penmen are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 10 (7 p.m.) when they play host to Bentley University at Penmen Stadium in a match that will be televised nationally on FOX College Sports.
