Junior DJ Goldstein (Wareham, Mass.) tallied his second goal of the game on a power play early in the second period, but SNHU fell short in a 5-4 loss to Saint Anselm College at Sullivan Arena on Friday night.  

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Goldstein picked up his first two goals of the season.  It was his second two-goal game for the Penmen, and first since February 3, 2018 at Post.
• Senior Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) tallied for the second time this week and added an assist on Goldstein's first goal.
• Freshman Andy Somerville (Medford, Mass.) brought SNHU to within a goal early in the third period.  It was his second goal of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Penmen had been the team racing out to early 2-0 leads, but it was the Hawks who scored the first two goals in this contest.  Kevin Oullette and John Femia each scored unassisted goals in the first 5:26 for Saint Anselm.
• SNHU made it 2-1 at 10:08 of the first period as Strawn scored his second of the season on an assist from Cole Stewart.
• Almost five minutes later, the Penmen tied the game at 2-2 on Goldstein's first goal from Strawn.
• The Hawks moved back in front 3-2 at 15:08 of the first period on a goal by Matt Chisholm.
• Goldstein tied the game for a second time at 5:19 of the second period off a pass from Jake Cox.
• The Penmen would give up two goals later in the second period on goals by Dave Almeida and Jake Cimarusti to put the host squad up 5-3.
• SNHU closed to within 5-4 on a goal by Somerville at 2:11 of the third period.  The assist went to Junior Artem Efimov-Barakov (Khimki, Russia).
• Winning goaltender Colin Soucy stopped two shots in the final minute after the Penmen went with an extra attacker in an attempt to draw even.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Hawks outshot the Penmen 37-28 for the game, although the Penmen had a 14-7 advantage in the first period. 
• Junior Kurt Gutting (Weymouth, Mass.) started in net and freshman JT Kossakowski (Elburn, Ill.) relieved, holding the Hawks scoreless on 14 shots over a little more than a period.
• SNHU was whistled for three infractions for a total of six minutes.  Saint Anselm committed five penalties, including two in the game's final 7:06, but the Penmen could not cash in on the man-advantage opportunities.  

NOTES

• This was the first of three regular season meetings between the NE10 rivals.  They will not meet again until the close of the regular season February 15-16.
• Saint Anselm has won the last five meetings between the squads.
