MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's ice hockey team officially signed Cohl Capparelli (Exeter, N.H.) to its program Saturday morning after being matched with the 11-year-old through Team IMPACT.
Cohl, who was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (a form of Muscular Dystrophy) three years ago, has always been an avid hockey fan and has not let anything get in the way of that. He is active on the Northeast Passage sled hockey team and is excited to show his new teammates his skills on the ice.
In addition to his sister, Ava, and parents, Kerri and Nick, Cohl now has the support of the 28-member SNHU men's ice hockey team and its coaching staff.
Following a few words from head coach Sean Walsh, Cohl signed his Letter of Intent and then answered questions asked by his teammates. The signing day was capped by gifts from the team, as junior goaltender Kurt Gutting (Weymouth, Mass.) presented Cohl a goalie stick signed by the entire squad, with seniors Chris Moquin (Hooksett, N.H.) and Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) giving Cohl a pair of SNHU men's ice hockey jerseys.
Team IMPACT is a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses by matching them with collegiate athletic teams. Cohl becomes the eighth current member of the SNHU family through Team IMPACT, as well as its 11th all-time letterwinner since 2012.
