KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire trailed by one in the final minute of the first half when a Montague layup and Almonacy trey sent the Penmen to the locker room with a 43-39 lead, and also set off what would be a 14-2 run to widen the advantage to 52-41 less than two-and-a-half minutes into the second stanza. Joyce took care of second part of the run, drilling 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions.
  • Queens had crept to within four just past the midway point of the second half with a 17-7 burst - led by seven and six points from Almonacy and Montague, respectively - giving SNHU its largest lead of the contest at 81-67 with 1:10 on the clock.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • David Grady III (7-11 FG, 3-6 3-FG), Elijah Bovell (6-11 fG, 2-6 3-FG, 2-2 FT) and Kevin Buron (6-9 FG, 1-1 3-FG, 2-2 FT) led the Knights with 17, 16 and and 15 points, respectively.
  • The Penmen narrowly outshot the Knights, 52.5 percent (32-61) to 51.7 percent (30-58), including 42.1 percent (8-19) to 40 percent (10-25) from long distance.
  • SNHU was also plus-8 from the line, despite being outshot, 80 percent (4-5) to 54.5 percent (12-22).
  • The Penmen captured the paint (46-34), collected more points off turnovers (23-6) and fast break points (17-7), and featured a better assist-to-turnover ratio (13/5-11/14), while the Knights narrowly won the glass (31-30).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has now captured three straight wins.
  • SNHU improves to 2-0 all-time versus Queens, with both wins coming at home.
  • This marks the third time this season the Penmen have only turned the ball over fewer than 10 times, after having just two such games last season. The five turnovers are also the fewest in a game since Dec. 9, 2017 when SNHU also had five against Stonehill College.
  • Joyce reaches the 20-point plateau for the fourth time this season and 14th in his career, while Almonacy's 20-point game is his third of the season and his career.
  • Montague is averaging 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over his last four.
  • Joyce and Almonacy have scored in double figures in eight of nine contests this season.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen are back in action Saturday, Dec. 10 (7 p.m.) when they take on Bentley University.
  • The next home contest for SNHU is Sunday, Jan. 5 (3:30 p.m.) when it plays host to Roberts Wesleyan College at the Stan Spirou Field House. The game will air on WGIR 610-AM.
