Senior Victoria Dean (Plymouth, Mass.) scored a team-best 18 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team came up short against Bentley University, 76-67, Saturday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire trailed, 43-29, with 6:32 remaining in the third quarter when it called timeout to switch out its five players on the floor. The Penmen responded with a 24-10 run that featured six different scorers - led by Roche with seven - to knot the game at 53-all with 36 seconds left. Bentley would drain a pair of free throws to head into the final frame in front by two.
  • Those free throws would also give the Falcons the lead for good, as they began a 16-5 run - paced by seven from Megan Lewis - to open a 69-58 advantage. SNHU would never get closer than seven.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Monica Viapiano led Bentley with 22 points (9-17 FG, 4-6 FT) and eight rebounds.
  • The Falcons outshot the Penmen, 45.8 percent (27-59) to 40.3 percent (25-62), including 29.2 percent (7-24) to 28.6 percent (6-21) from beyond the arc.
  • Bentley was also plus-4 from the line, despite SNHU shooting it marginally better, 73.3 percent (11-15) to 71.4 percent (15-21).
  • The Penmen collected more points off turnovers (14-10) and received more scoring from their bench (22-15), while the Falcons won the glass (41-31) and the paint (38-30), and recorded a more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (14/16-8/15).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire loses for the fourth time in six games, while Bentley wins for the second straight game, following a three-game skid.
  • Bentley, which leads the all-time series with SNHU, 45-6, has now won four straight in the series. 
  • Bentley sweeps the regular-season series, as it also was victorious, 74-66, at home back on Dec. 21.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen are back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 (1:30 p.m.) when they take on Stonehill College.
  • SNHU plays its final regular-season home contest Tuesday, Feb. 25 (5 p.m.) when it plays host to Saint Michael's College on Senior Night at the Stan Spirou Field House. The game will air on both FOX College Sports and WGIR 610-AM.
