SNHU Crowned NE10 Presidents' Cup Fall Seasonal Champion

NE10 RELEASE

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University was officially crowned as the Fall Seasonal Champion for the Northeast-10 Presidents' Cup on Monday when the league office made the announcement.

The Penmen took first with 86.0 points, which was three-and-a-half points ahead of runner-up (and winter champion) Stonehill College. SNHU collected the highest number of points in field hockey (13.5), as it tied for second in the standings, with women's cross country (13.0) just behind for its second-place showing at the NE10 Championship. Men's soccer (11.0), women's soccer (10.5), men's cross country (10.0) and women's tennis (10.0) – the lone NE10 Regular-Season Champion in the fall for SNHU – all contributed double-digit points.

Southern New Hampshire, which fields nine of the 10 fall sports administered by the NE10, also finished first in percentage of possible points, as it collected 77 percent of a possible 112 points, slotting in ahead of Stonehill's 74 percent (82.5 of 111). The Penmen had eight of their nine programs finish fourth or higher in their respective league standings.

Normally, one Presidents' Cup Champion is crowned at the of the academic year, signifying overall athletic excellence in the league. The honor is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based on finishes in the regular-season standings from all of its programs competing in league championships, and encompasses the fall, winter and spring seasons. However, with the spring season cut short due to COVID-19, the NE10 Athletics Council – which consists of athletic directors and senior woman administrators from each member institution – determined it would honor the institutions that accumulated the highest point totals in both the fall and winter seasons, allowing the Conference to appropriately recognize the accomplishments of the membership through the conclusion of 17 of the 24 sports that comprise the award. SNHU, which had its highest finish ever when it placed fourth in the NE10 Presidents' Cup standings last season, led through the fall for the second straight year.
