Pepin Mounts Furious Rally to Win Post Eagles Invite; Men's Golf Also Finishes First

Freshman Jack Pepin (Plaistow, N.H.) erased a four-shot deficit heading into the final round, firing a 4-under 67 Tuesday to capture the Post Eagles Invitational for his first collegiate victory, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team also finished in first at Watertown Golf Club for its third win of the year.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
  • Pepin, who entered the day tied for eighth with a 145, made five birdies to turn in the best round of the day by four strokes and catapult up the leaderboard to finish first with a 1-under 212.
  • Senior Matt Conti (Walpole, Mass.) carded a 73 for the second straight round to tie for fourth with a 3-over 216.
  • Sophomore AJ Cavotta (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), who led after the first two rounds, submitted a 74 and tied for second with a 2-over 215.
  • Junior Jeff Liss (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), whose 69 in the second round was tied for the lowest score of Monday, penciled in a 76 for a three-round total of 222 that tied him for 13th.
NOTES
  • Sophomore Nick Tufts (Auburn, N.H.) did not factor into the scoring, as he shot an 81 to end up with a 240.
  • Sophomore Alex Korkuc (So. Setauket, N.Y.), playing as an individual, recorded a 79 in the final round and finished with a 236.
  • SNHU (865) won the event by 13 shots over host Post University (878) and has now come away victorious in three of the four events it has played in this season.
  • Pepin was the only golfer to finish the tournament under par and defeated Cavotta and Assumption University's Sean Magarian by three strokes (215).
  • Pepin and Cavotta finished in a three-way tie for the most birdies over the 54 holes with 11. Pepin also collected one of eight eagles in the tournament.
  • Pepin led the field in par 4 scoring (-1), while Cavotta and Conti were right behind (E).
  • The Post Eagles Invite was comprised of 81 golfers from 14 different institutions.

  • The Penmen wrap up the fall season at the Le Moyne Fall Invitational on Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16 at Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, N.Y.
