Sophomore Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) and junior Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) both won their singles matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the season with a 5-2 loss to Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday afternoon at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Hubickova outlasted Maria Aguilo for a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.
- Etienne also pulled out a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, downing Himani Mor, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
NOTES
- Sophomore Mina Houge (Oslo, Norway) lost a three-set match at No. 4 singles, falling short against Laura Alvarez Tello, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7.
- Junior Elizabeth Dwyer (Cutchogue, N.Y.) also went to three sets before succumbing to Zoe Asterio Correa at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 4-6.
- The Penmen had defeated their three opponents by a combined score of 18-0 before the loss to FPU.
- The Ravens had not dropped a match before meeting SNHU, outscoring their three opponents, 16-0.
- Sophomore Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia), who falls to 18-4 in her SNHU singles career, drops her first NE10 match and is now 13-1.
