Rivera Chosen as NE10 Player of the Week

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Redshirt-freshman Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was feted as the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for the period ending April 18, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The Penmen (12-0), ranked 12th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll, went a perfect 4-0 last week, as they outscored Saint Michael's College, 59-11, in a four-game sweep.

Rivera went 9-for-16 at the plate during the week, as he slashed .563/.636/.625, drove in five runs, scored 10 times, walked five times and stole eight bases. He also made 19 flawless plays at shortstop. Rivera had at least two hits in each of the four games and capped the sweep of Saint Michael's with a 3-for-4, two-RBI, three-run performance in a 24-4 win in Sunday's second game.

Through the first 12 games of the season, Rivera is batting .396 (19-48) with a home run, 11 RBI, 20 runs scored and 12 stolen bases, to go with a .483/.500 slash line. Rivera leads the league in steals and ranks second in runs, sixth in hits and 10th in batting average.

Rivera and the Penmen are back in action Saturday, April 24 when they play host to Bentley University in a doubleheader that begins at noon from Penmen Field.
