MANSFIELD, Mass. - Graduate student Willem van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team received Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team honors at both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, to highlight six Penmen that earned end-of-the-year honors that were announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
van Biezen is 7-1 so far this season, including a perfect 5-0 at No. 2 singles. After beginning the year with a loss, he has reeled off seven consecutive victories. He was also a First Teamer in 2019.
His brother and classmate, Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands), gathered a Second Team selection at No. 1 singles. Bas, who is 6-2 this year and has gone 4-1 at the top flight, was a First Team honoree in both 2018 and 2019.
Junior Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) also found a home on the Second Team at No. 4 singles, where he is 5-1 this season. Torres, who is 7-1, overall, has captured seven straight victories. He made it on to the First Team in 2019.
Sophomore Zachary Duboulay (St. Lucia) joined Bas van Biezen and Torres on the Second Team at the No. 6 singles position. Duboulay, who was also given an All-Rookie Team nod, is a perfect 5-0 on the year, with all of his matches coming at No. 6.
Freshman Sam Goddard (Amherst, N.H.) received a Third Team selection at No. 5 singles, following a 5-3 rookie campaign. Goddard, who was also an All-Rookie Team recipient, went 4-2 at No. 5.
Willem and Bas van Biezen collected First Team accolades at No. 1 doubles after going a perfect 7-0 at the top flight during the NE10 regular season. The duo, which is now 8-0, were also First Team picks in 2019.
Torres and senior Guido Janssen (Zeewolde, Netherlands) were also honored at No. 2 doubles with a Third Team selection. They were 6-1 at No. 2 during the regular season and are now 7-1, having won six-in-a-row. Torres was a First Team choice in 2019 with a different partner.
The second-seeded Penmen will battle third-seeded Franklin Pierce University in an NE10 Championship semifinal at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts on Tuesday (April 27) at 1 p.m.
