MANSFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) was selected as the Northeast-10 Vern Cox Women's Tennis Player of the Year on Tuesday, as the league office announced its all-conference awards.
Hubickova is the fourth Penmen in program history to earn the honor and the first since Abla Chadli in 2016. With eligibility remaining, she will also be able to join Amber Chandronnait (2009, 2010, 2011) and Alena Mukdaprakorn (2012, 2013) as multiple-time winner of the award. Hubickova, who was also named to the NE10 All-Conference First Team, is 8-1 so far this season, all at the top flight. Hubickova was the league's Rookie of the Year, as well as a Second Teamer at No. 1 singles, a year ago.
Junior Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) earned a spot on the Second Team at No. 2 singles, where she also is 8-1 on the year. Etienne was the 2018-19 NE10 Rookie of the Year and a First Team honoree at No. 3 singles that year.
Sophomore Isabella Andrade (Cochabama, Bolivia) was a Third Team honoree at No. 3 singles. She is 8-1 on the season, including 4-1 at No. 3. Andrade was a First Team pick at No. 5 singles last season.
Freshman Madison Blazejowski (Wethersfield, Conn.) collected a Third Team accolades, and also received an All-Rookie Team nod, after going 2-0 early on before having her season cut short due to injury.
In doubles, Hubickova and Etienne were chosen as a First Team duo at No. 1 for the second consecutive season. They are 7-2 this season, all at the top flight.
The fifth-seeded Penmen will take on fourth-seeded Le Moyne College in an NE10 Championship quarterfinal match Wednesday (April 28) at 1 p.m.
