Senior Matt Conti (Walpole, Mass.) carded a 1-over 71 in the final round of the Penmen Fall Invitational on Tuesday to capture individual medalist honors, while the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team also finished first at Derryfield Country Club.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
- Conti finished with a 4-under 206 for the tournament, winning by four shots after opening Monday with a 67-68 in the first two rounds.
- Freshman Jack Pepin (Plaistow, N.H.) tied for third with a 1-over 211, as he fired a 68 in the final round. Pepin shot 70-73 Monday.
- Junior Jeff Liss (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) had his best round of the week with a 69 that moved him into a tie for 10th with a 219. Liss began with a 79, before trimming that to a 71 in the second round.
- Sophomore AJ Cavotta (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) rounded out the final-round scorers for the Penmen with a 72 and matched Pepin in a tie for third with a 1-over 211, as he went 71-68 Monday.
NOTES
- Sophomore Nick Tufts (Auburn, N.H.), who did not factor into the scoring, shot a 76 to go with Monday's 72-75. He tied for 19th with a 223.
- Sophomore Alex Korkuc (So. Setauket, N.Y.), playing as an individual, submitted his best score of the tourney with a 75. He finished with a 228 to tie for 36th after going 77-76 in the first two rounds.
- SNHU has now won both its tournaments so far this season, while Conti is also 2-for-2 after earning co-medalist honors at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational to start the year.
- Southern New Hampshire defeated runner-up Post University by 28 shots.
- Conti, who was the only golfer to finish the tournament under par, won by four strokes, with Post's Ethan Phillips coming in second with an even-par 210.
- Pepin's 68 was the lowest score of the day.
- Conti, Pepin and Cavotta finished as part of a four-way tie for the most birdies in the tournament with 10. Conti also led the way in par 4 scoring (-5), while Pepin was second (-3).
- The Penmen Fall Invite was comprised of 60 golfers from 11 different institutions.

- The Penmen return to action Monday, Oct. 4 for the NE10 Championship, which they will host at Concord Country Club.
