MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Jess Knight (Hanover, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team was chosen as the NE10 Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 4, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Knight posted 19.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 assist per game, while hitting on 71.4 percent (15-21) of her shots from the field and 88.9 percent (8-9) from the line, during a 2-0 week for the Penmen. Knight recorded a double-double of 15 points (7-10 FG, 1-1 FT) and 10 rebounds, to go with three blocks, an assist and a steal, in a 79-74 win over Adelphi University on Wednesday. She then poured in 23 points (8-11 FG, 7-8 FT) and tallied 11 boards, an assist and a block in Saturday's 77-66 win at Pace University. Knight has four double-doubles in six games this season.
In six games this season, Knight is averaging 17.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.0 block per game, while shooting 45.5 percent (40-88) from the field and 74.3 percent (26-35) from the stripe. Knight ranks third in the league in offensive rebounding (4.5), fifth in scoring, rebounding, blocks per game, total rebounds (58) and offensive rebounds (27), sixth in free throws made, and seventh in field goals made, total points (106) and blocked shots (6).
Knight and the Penmen are back in action Tuesday, Dec. 6 (5:30 p.m.) when they take on the College of Saint Rose.
