MANCHESTER, N.H. – Lauren Schetter scored 27 points and pulled down eight rebounds to help lead seventh-seeded Pace University to a 67-65 victory over eighth-seeded Daemen College in Monday's Championship Game of the NCAA Women's Division II East Regional at the Stan Spirou Field House.
Pace (24-7) took the lead for the final time on a three-point field goal by Arianna Stockinger with 2:35 to play. Schetter followed with a layup to make it 64-60, and the Setters were able to make enough free throws down the stretch to turn back the Wildcats (22-5). Schetter, a graduate student, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the regional.
Daemen was paced by Katie Titus who scored 27 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by Tiara Filbert, who scored 11 in the Championship for the Wildcats. Also named to the All-Tournament team were Haley Meinel of Jefferson University and USciences guard Jess Huber.
Pace, a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, will head to the Elite Eight in Birmingham, Alabama next week. It's the first Regional Championship for Pace since 2001. Daemen was the defending champion.
Southern New Hampshire played host to the East Region Championship for the first time after the Penmen earned the top-seed. Daemen topped SNHU on Friday night 70-59.
