MANSFIELD, MASS. – Southern New Hampshire University, with a highly successful winter sports season, has moved into first place in the Northeast-10 Presidents' Cup standings, the league office announced Thursday.
SNHU, with 114.5 points, ranks just ahead of NE10 rivals Stonehill (112.5) and Bentley (106.5). Southern New Hampshire has finished first in percentage of possible points in both the fall and winter seasons. SNHU's winter teams (men's and women's basketball, ice hockey, and indoor track) collected 80 percent of a possible 46 points. Pace University, at 77 percent (33 of 43), was the next closest institution during the winter season.
The Penmen collected the highest number of points in women's basketball (14.0), advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 32 years. Women's indoor track & field earned 10 points, men's ice hockey garnered seven points after winning the regular season title in the NE10, and men's basketball contributed six points.
After the fall season, SNHU (77.5) was one point behind Assumption University (78.5).
The NE10 Presidents' Cup is presented annually at the conclusion of the academic year, signifying overall athletic excellence in the league. The honor is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based on finishes in the regular-season standings from all of its programs competing in league championships. This is the first time since the 2018-19 season the league has reverted back to its usual format. In 2019-20, only a fall champion was recognized, while the same was done for a spring champion in 2020-21.
SNHU's highest finish under the normal format – fourth – came in 2018-19.
