Cavotta Paces Men's Golf to Fourth Place on Day One of NCAA Preview

The Penmen are the top East region team after 18 holes

Victor, N.Y. -- Sophomore AJ Cavotta (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) shot a +3 75 and sits tied for ninth place to help the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team (306) to a fourth-place position after day one of the NCAA East/Atlantic Regional Preview at Ravenwood Golf on Sunday afternoon. The Penmen are just five strokes behind first-place Davis & Elkins (301).

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
  • Freshman Jack Pepin (Plaistow, N.H.) and junior Jeff Liss (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) each carded a 76 (+4) and sit tied for 22nd.
  • Senior Matt Conti (Walpole, Mass) rounded out SNHU scoring rounds with a 79 (+7).
  • Freshman Alex Korkuc (So. Setauket, N.Y.) fired a +10 (82) and did not factor in scoring.
NOTES
  • The Penmen are ranked first in the most recent NCAA East Regional rankings and finished ahead of the other nine east region teams on day one.
  • The field includes 23 teams and 116 golfers all aspiring to make the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • SNHU concludes the regular season with the final round of the Showcase Invitational at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, N.Y. on April 11. This course will serve as the host to the 2022 NCAA East Regional.
