Two Penmen Featured as NE10 Winter Sport Excellence Award Winners

League Recognizes Fiorino, Corcoran Thursday

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two SNHU student-athletes have been honored by the Northeast-10 Conference with its Sports Excellence Award for the 2021-22 winter season.  Senior Joseph Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.) and graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) were announced as winners Thursday.

Fiorino, the Ice Hockey Defensive Player of the Year, carried a 3.868 GPA while pursuing an MBA.  He netted five goals and 14 assists this season for the Penmen, with a +21 ice rating.  Fiorino was named NE10 All-Conference First Team and was a semifinalist for the Joe Concannon Award.

Corcoran had a perfect 4.0 GPA working towards her MBA (Marketing).  The NE10 Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year was also named Most Outstanding Track Performer and Most Valuable Athlete at the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Among the 82 student-athletes named to the NE10 Academic All-Conference teams last week, the Sport Excellence Award honors one top individual from each of those seven winter sports. Six different institutions were represented in the announcement on Thursday morning- SNHU was the only school with two winners this season.

To be eligible for Academic All-Conference and Sport Excellence honors, a student-athlete must have started at least half or played in two-thirds of all contests while making significant contributions and maintaining a 3.3 grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
