Penmen Finish Third at UNH Jim Boulanger Invitational

Sippel wins 400 meters; Track & Field add multiple top-three finishes

The SNHU women's track & field team continued its outdoor season on Saturday at the Jim Boulanger Invitational, competing against a strong Division I-heavy field at the University of New Hampshire.

TRACK
  • Senior Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) led the way for the Penmen in the sprints, placing third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.74 seconds. Freshman Jordyn Wall-Carty (Woodridge, N.Y.) followed in fourth (13.20) in her first try at the distance.
  • Freshman Kaylin Findley (Wallingford, Conn.) came in 6th place in the 100m (13.73).
  • Sophomore Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.) turned in a strong day, finishing third in the 200 meters (27.06) and winning the 400 meters in 1:00.41.  That's the fastest time recorded by a Northeast 10 athlete this season.
  • Junior Hope Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.) added a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters (1:03.23).
  • In the middle-distance events, graduate student Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) placed 11th in the 1,500 meters (5:02.71).  
  • In the hurdles, junior Kay Wheelock (Milford, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.49, while Obernesser added a sixth-place finish and freshman Erin Kelley (Braintree, Mass.) was seventh.
  • SNHU's 4x100-meter relay team of Sinclair, Sippel, Lily Bower (Billerica, Mass.), and Wall-Carty placed second overall in 49.59. The 4x400 relay team of Wheelock, Wall-Carty, Madison Lyons (Mansfield, Conn.), and Kelley finished third in 4:22.43.
FIELD
  • Jordyn Wall-Carty led the jumpers with a fourth-place finish in the long jump (4.87m), while Lily Bower placed seventh and Madison Lyons was eighth.
  • In the triple jump, freshman Ciara Pina (Taunton, Mass.) placed third with a mark of 8.79 meters.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Descheneaux (Methuen, Mass.) led SNHU in the high jump, clearing 1.37 meters to finish seventh, while Pina also competed.
  • Senior Brooke Bibbo (Burlington, Mass.) paced the throwers with a sixth-place finish in the shot put (11.49m) and added an eighth-place finish in the discus. Freshman Autumn O'Connor (Hooksett, N.H.) also competed in both events.
  • Junior Kayla Franks (Derry, N.H.) recorded a second-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 38.53 meters.
NOTES
  • SNHU finished third overall as a team with 56 points, behind meet host New Hampshire (145.50) and Vermont (127.50).
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen will host the second annual Ed Daniels Invitational and celebrate Senior Day next Saturday, April 11, at Ouellette Stadium in Hooksett.
