INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team has claimed the No. 2 seed, a bye and hosting duties in the NCAA East Regional No. 2, which takes place May 9-10 at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Tuesday night when it unveiled its field of 48 teams.
The Penmen, who earn their ninth NCAA Tournament berth – all since 2011 – will be making their fifth trip in the last six season after coming up just short a thrilling 4-3 deficit to Le Moyne in the
Northeast-10 Champions on Saturday. SNHU is 10-2, overall, having gone 5-1 in conference play, the Penmen opened the season 9-0.
SNHU will host a neutral match Monday (1 p.m.), as third-seeded Queens (N.Y.) College (13-3) and sixth-seeded Chestnut Hill (8-4) square off, with the Penmen awaiting the winner Tuesday (1 p.m.).
The winning team from each site will advance to the finals, May 18-22, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission will serve as hosts.
Southern New Hampshire will be looking for its third win in the NCAA Tournament. SNHU is 2-8 all-time in the NCAA postseason, including 1-2 versus Queens, whom they beat in 2019 to advance to their first ever "Sweet 16". The Penmen have wins in each of their last two NCAA appearances.
This season, the Penmen defeated Queens, 5-2, playing indoors February 12. SNHU did not face Chestnut Hill this season, but are just 1-3 lifetime against the Griffins.
