Indoor Track & Field Competes in Boston

Corcoran opens season with 3,000m win in NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time

Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) led a 1-2-4-5 finish in the 3000m run as SNHU's Indoor Track & Field Team competed Saturday at the Suffolk Ice Breaker at the Track at New Balance.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Corcoran's comfortable win in the 3000m (9:54.27) came with her three fastest splits at the end of the race, her first race of the indoor track & field season.   It's an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time for the distance.  She owns the program record with a 9:37.55 at Boston University last February.
  • Obernesser (11:12.11) finished second in the 3000m, with SNHU senior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.) fourth and junior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.) coming in fifth.   
NOTES
  • Freshman Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) was the top Penmen runner in the 60m, finishing 12th with an 8.45.   She also set a new season mark in the 200m (28.30).
  • Junior Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.) ran to a fourth-place finish in the 200m (25.99) and also finished 8th in the 400m.
  • Graduate student Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) finished ninth in the weight throw (14.15m) with graduate student Tatyanna Beckford (Orange, N.J.) in 13th place.  For the second consecutive meet, she set a new PR with 13.47m.
  • Freshman Brooke Bibbo (Burlington, Mass.) was the top SNHU athlete in the shot put, setting a season mark of 11.27m.
NOTES
  • Among the programs competing in the Suffolk Ice Breaker were Dartmouth College, Boston College, UMass-Lowell, and host Suffolk University.

  •  The Penmen will compete at the Panther Invitational at Plymouth State next Saturday, Jan. 21.
