SNHU Track & Field Leads after Day 1 of NE10 Indoor Championships

Corcoran, McInerney record wins for Penmen in 5000m and Pentathlon

(Boston, Mass.) - SNHU Indoor Track & Field is in first place after the first day of the 2023 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship. 

TOP PERFORMANCES
  • The Penmen turned in a 1-2-3 finish in the 5,000m run.  Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won the race at 18:40.96, with freshman Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) coming in second at 18:45.71. 
  • Junior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) was third at 18:50.76, and senior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.) wound up in sixth place after a 19:28.58 run.
  • Freshman Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) won the pentathlon with a new program record 2,937 points, with junior Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) in second place at 2,761 points and sophomore Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) in fifth at 2,603.
  • Hallet set a new PR for the 60H at 9.64, and she has qualified for Friday's finale of the 60H with a qualifying run of 9.75.
  • Junior Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.) has qualified for the finals in the 60m dash with a 7.97 (new PR) and in the 200m dash with a 25.66.  She also qualified for the finals in the 400m dash with a new program record and PR of 57.39- the second-best time of the day.  Her 5.40m in the long jump was also a new personal mark, finishing fifth.
  • Junior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.) and junior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.) both qualified for the 800m final by finishing within the top eight.
  • Freshman Amelia Edmonds (Strafford, N.H.) scored in the pole vault at 2.43m, good for eighth place.
  • SNHU finished second in the distance medley relay at 12:21.22 with O'Rourke, McInerney, Bradbury, and Corcoran running the legs.
  • Graduate student Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) turned in a third-place finish in the weight throw at 14.31m.
NOTES
  • SNHU scored 49 points, with Adelphi in second place (33).  New Haven and Southern Connecticut are tied for third place (25).    
  • The Penmen recorded a program best second-place finish at the 2022 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship.

  • Day 2 of the Indoor Track & Field Championships will start at 11 a.m. with the women's shot put.
