SNHU Women's Track & Field Starts Outdoor Season

Penmen Turn in Strong Performances in Opening Meet Friday

SNHU Outdoor Track & Field opened the season at home on Friday.  The Penmen recorded several winning efforts to start the season.

WINNING EFFORTS
  • The Penmen finished 1-2 in the discus with freshman Brooke Bibbo (Burlington, Mass.) winning the event with a throw of 37.61m.  Junior Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) came in second at 37.16m.   Bibbo also finished second in the shot put at 11.33m.
  • Graduate student Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) won the shot put at 11.43m and also finished second in the hammer throw at 38.37m.
  • Senior Madison McMahon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won the long jump at 5.13m with junior Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) finishing third with a 4.77m.  McMahon was also second in the high jump at 1.55m.
  • The Penmen ran 1-2-3 in the 3000 Steeplechase with junior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.) winning the race in 11:28.43.  Freshman Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) wound up second with junior Riley McDermott (Kennebunkport, Maine) in third place.
  • In the 800m, SNHU junior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.) won with a time of 2:29.50 and freshman Anne Wiersma (Velhoven, The Netherlands) was second at 2:31.85.
  • Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) finished top two in the 5000m.  Corcoran's time was 18:02.60 and Seamans had 18:02.75.
  • The Penmen turned in a solid effort to win the 4x100 relay in 48.90.  Freshman Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.), junior Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.), Hallet, and freshman Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) ran the legs.
  • Gravell and McInerney also teamed with Bradbury and Wiersma to win the final race of the day, the 4x400 relay.
  • McInerney won the 400 hurdles in 1:06.84.
  • Gravell won the 200m in 25.89 and ran to a second-place finish in the 100m at 12.52.
  • Sinclair was also third in the 200m.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
  • The Penmen finished 2-3 in the javelin with junior Tori Limone (Stoneham, Mass.) finishing in second place, just ahead of graduate student Tatyanna Beckford (Orange, N.J.).  Limone threw 35.88 and Beckford had a 35.11. 
  • Freshman Amelia Edmonds (Strafford, N.H.) finished third in the pole vault at 2.30m.
NOTES
  • This was the first of three meets at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium this season.  SNHU will host the Penmen Relays on Saturday, April 15.  SNHU will also host the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 5-6.
  • One stadium record was set in the men's mile with Aaron Willingham of Valor TC running a 4:18.39.

  • SNHU will compete at the Springfield College Classic next Saturday, April 8.
