Seniors Honored at 2023 Penmen Relays

Corcoran Sets New Steeplechase Mark on Saturday.

SNHU graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) set a new program record in the 3000m Steeplechase and junior Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.) won the 200m and 400m races at the Penmen Relays Saturday at Dr. Mark A. Ouellette Stadium.

WINNING EFFORTS
  • Corcoran won the steeplechase in 10:21.74, one of the top times among all Div. II athletes nationwide.   
  • Gravell took the 400m in 58.05 seconds and won the 200m later in the day in 25.78.  Both were season-best marks.  
  • Junior Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) matched her program record, winning the high jump at 1.65m and also finished second in the 100 hurdles in a seasons-best 15.87.
  • Junior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.) won the mile in 5:17.06.
  • The Penmen won the 4x100 relay with freshman Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.), Gravel, Hallet, and freshman Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) running the legs.
TOP PERFORMANCES
  • Sinclair also finished third in the 100m with a PR of 12.71.
  • Junior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.) finished second in the 800m with a season-best 2:23.89 and freshman Anne Wiersma (Velhoven, The Netherlands) finished third with her best time of 2:25.27.
  • Junior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) wound up second to O'Rourke in the mile, running her best time at the distance of 5:20.01.
  • Freshman Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) finished second in the 5000m run in 19:26.82.
  • McInerney finished second in the 400 hurdles with a new PR of 1:04.22.
  • Junior Riley McDermott (Kennebunkport, Maine) was second in the Steeplechase at 12:08.00.
  • The Penmen ran second in the 4x400 relay with Sinclair, freshman Colleen McGurl (Billerica, Mass.), Hallet, and McInerney clocking 4:30.67.
  • Senior Madison McMahon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was third in the high jump at 1.55m.   She also finished second in the long jump at 5.12m.
  • Freshman Brooke Bibbo (Burlington, Mass.) finished second in the discus at 36.25m.
  • Junior Tori Limone (Stoneham, Mass.) came in third in the javelin at 36.09m.
NOTES
  • There was no team scoring.  11 college programs took part, including NE10 rivals Franklin Pierce University and Assumption University.
  • On Senior Day, Beckford, Alula, McMahon, Zarakotas, DeNegris, and Corcoran were honored.
  • Two men broke their own Stadium records on Saturday.  Aaron Willingham of Valor Track Club set a new mark with a mile in 4:10.12.   Southern Maine's Ben Drummey broke his pole vault mark at 4.70m.  He had jumped 4.50m to win the event last year at the Penmen Relays.

  • SNHU will head to Northeastern University next Saturday, April 22 for the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational (10:30 a.m.).
