MARSHALL, Minn. – Junior
Nick Schwartz (Massapequa, N.Y.) and senior
Jeffrey Praml (Bridgewater, N.J.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team were tabbed for the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-America Team on Thursday.
Schwartz, who claimed a spot on the Second Team, is the program's 10th D2CCA All-American and the first since Nick Artymowicz was an Honorable Mention in 2021. Schwartz adds to his impressive list of accolades, which includes D2CCA East Region Player of the Year, D2CCA East All-Region First Team, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) East Region Position Player of the Year, ABCA East All-Region First Team, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Player of the Year, NCBWA East All-Region First Team, NE10 Northeast Division Player of the Year and NE10 All-Conference First Team pick. Schwartz is in the midst of an all-time season, batting .406 (76-187) with 12 home runs, 67 RBI and 61 runs scored. He has piled up 34 extra-base hits, including 20 doubles, and has drawn 33 walks, to craft a slash line of .498/.727/1.225. Behind the plate, he has played errorless baseball over 336 chances, by far the highest number of chances with a perfect fielding percentage in the NE10. The next closest has made 106 flawless plays. Schwartz leads the NE10 in hits, RBI, slugging percentage, total bases (136) and doubles, while ranking second in batting, third in runs scored and home runs, fourth in on-base percentage and seventh in walks. In the single-season program record book, Schwartz is tied for the lead in RBI, while ranking second in batting and doubles, fourth in home runs, sixth in hits and runs, and 10th in walks.
Praml, who was a D2CCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2019, carved out a Third Team spot. Praml was the D2CCA East Region Pitcher of the Year, D2CCA East All-Region First Team, ABCA East All-Region First Team, NCBWA East All-Region First Team, NE10 Northeast Division Pitcher of the Year and NE10 All-Conference First Team. Praml returned to the Penmen this season and picked right back up with his dominant form. Over 14 starts, he is 11-3 with a 2.41 ERA and a WHIP of 1.13 striking out 79 over 97 innings. Opponents are batting .231 against him. Praml is leading the conference in wins and innings pitched, while placing third in ERA and strikeouts. His 11 wins are the most in a single season in program history.
The Penmen, ranked 10th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 and 13th in the
Collegiate Baseball Division II Poll, are 42-11. They posted a stellar 23-1 record in NE10 play to win the NE10 Northeast Division for the sixth straight season and seventh time, overall, with the .958 winning percentage in league play ranking as the second best in the history of the conference. SNHU won a program-record 24 straight games from March 24-April 28, with the winning streak serving as the longest in the nation at any level, while it was active. The Penmen captured their fifth NCAA East Regional Championship, including their third straight, and are now the sixth seed in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, which begins Saturday (June 3) in Cary, N.C.. This is the fourth time in the last five seasons the DII World Series was held that SNHU has made it. The Penmen open play Sunday (June 4) against Angelo State University at 1:30 p.m.
