MANSFIELD, Mass. – Graduate student
Alyssa Anderson (Londonderry, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team was chosen as the NE10 Player of the Week on Monday, while junior
Claudia Keith (Danvers, Mass.) received NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors, both for the period ending Oct. 13.
Anderson scored the only goal in a 1-0-1 week for the 14th-ranked Penmen. She hit a rocket from 30 yards out that tucked into the upper-right corner of the net to give SNHU an eventual 1-0 victory at 23rd-ranked Franklin Pierce University on Saturday.
Keith stopped all 10 shots she faced for a pair of shutouts. Keith made one save in Wednesday's scoreless draw with Saint Michael's College, before racking up a career-high nine saves in the triumph at FPU.
Anderson, who has started all 10 matches this season, leads the NE10 in shots on goal (26), is tied for third in assists (4) and ranks eighth in points (10; 3g, 4a).
Keith earns the award for the first time this season, despite leading the league in shutouts (8), goals-against average (0.20) and save percentage (.941). She has played all 900 minutes in net for the Penmen this season, stopping 32 of the 34 shots she has faced. Keith, who has posted four consecutive clean sheets, currently owns a shutout streak of 373:05 that dates back to Sept. 28.
The team is now 7-0-3 to begin the year, including 3-0-2 in the NE10 and has allowed just two goals, as it has outshot opponents, 169-72. The Penmen lead the league in both goals allowed and goals-against average (0.20).
Anderson, Keith and the Penmen are back in action Saturday, Oct. 19 (1 p.m.) when they play host to Pace University at Ouellette Stadium.
