INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team collected its 24th NCAA Championship tournament berth and found out it will host a Super Regional pod when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 40 teams Monday evening.
Southern New Hampshire (14-2-2), which received an automatic qualifier after capturing its eighth NE10 Championship on Saturday, earns Super Region 1's No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. SNHU will host a three-team pod as one of four hosts of Super Region 1. Seventh-seeded Post University (12-5-3) will take on the 10th-seeded University of the District of Columbia (8-7-4) at Mark A. Ouellette on Friday (Nov. 22) at 3 p.m., with the winner meeting the Penmen on Sunday (Nov. 24) at 3 p.m.
If SNHU were to prevail, it would host the winner of third-seeded Bloomsburg University (15-3-2) and sixth-seeded Felician University (16-4-2) on Sunday, Dec. 1. The Dec. 7 quarterfinals will be hosted by the highest remaining seed in Super Region 1.
The semifinals and final will be played Dec. 12 and 14 at the Matthews Sportsplex in Matthews, N.C., hosted by Wingate University.
SNHU will be making its 24th appearance, overall, in the NCAA Championship and carries in an all-time record of 21-17-6 (.545). The Penmen defeated Post University, 7-0, on the road back on Sept. 11, but would be meeting in the NCAA postseason for the first time. It would also be the first meeting between SNHU and UDC.
