INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team gathered its 22nd selection to the NCAA Championship tournament – and second straight – when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 64 teams Sunday evening.
Southern New Hampshire (21-10), which received an automatic bid as the NE10 Champion, earns the East Region's No. 3 seed and will take on sixth-seeded Bloomfield (22-9) in the opening round Saturday, March 16 (12 p.m.) at Saint Michael's College, which is hosting the East Regional at the Ross Sports Center. The Bears lost in the finals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). SNHU leads the all-time series with Bloomfield, 5-1, including a 69-67 road victory this season back on Dec. 9. It is the first time the two teams will meet in the NCAA postseason.
The winner of SNHU/Bloomfield will meet the victor of second-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas College (25-5) and seventh-seeded Post University (20-9 on Sunday (March 17). The winner from that contest will punch its ticket to the regional final on Tuesday (March 19).
The Elite Eight will take place at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., with the quarterfinals March 26, the semifinals March 28 and the NCAA National Championship Game on March 30.
SNHU will be making its 22nd appearance, overall, in the NCAA Championship, including second straight, and carries in a record of 28-21 (.571). The Penmen own seven NCAA East Region crowns, with 2015 being their most recent, in addition to a pair of Final Four appearances.
