MANSFIELD, Mass. –- Junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team was named the NE10 Player of the Week for the period ending April 21, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Berling went 3-1, including 2-0 at No. 1 singles, during a 2-0 week for SNHU. Berling was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Max Bonte in a 6-1 win against Bentley on Tuesday and then breezed by Joe Herin, 6-1, 6-1, in Saturday's 4-3 victory at Franklin Pierce. Berling teamed with graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) at No. 3 doubles for a 6-4 win over FPU's Preston Gordon and Orlando Guerrero. Berling and Ouwejan suffered a 7-6 (7-5) loss to Bentley's Ansh Chadha and Diego Ramos at No. 3 doubles.
Berling is 11-6 in singles action this season, including 9-3 at No. 1 and 5-3 in league play. He is 13-6 in doubles, including 5-2 at No. 2 and 4-2 at No. 3, while going 4-4 in the conference.
Berling and the Penmen are back in action Wednesday (April 24) at 2 p.m. when they play host to Queens (N.Y.) College at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
