The first day of the Northeast-10 Track & Field Championships has wrapped up in New Haven, Conn. The Penmen tallied 39 points and are in third place after seven scored events. Three races and four field events were completed on Friday.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Graduate student Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) finished third in the hammer throw with a season-best 45.90m. Senior Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) finished fifth with a new personal best of 43.53m.
- The Penmen earned 15 team points by finishing fourth through eighth in the javelin, led by freshman Kayla Franks (Derry, N.H.) at 35.73m.
- Senior Tori Limone (Stoneham, Mass.), junior Morgan Cooledge (Westbrook, Maine), junior Rachel Gizzonio (Milford, N.H.), and junior Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) were next in the standings for the Penmen in the javelin.
- Senior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) ran the 10,000m in 38:26.24, finishing third.
- The SNHU 4x800m relay team finished in third place. Freshman Deirdre Bailat (Billerica, Mass.), senior Riley McDermott (Kennebunkport, Maine), sophomore Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands), and senior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.) ran the legs.
- Wiersma also finished seventh in the 1500m at 4:57.98.
NOTES
- Southern Connecticut leads the scoring with 73 points. Saint Anselm is second with 41, just ahead of the Penmen (39).
- After four of the seven events in the heptathlon, SNHU senior Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) is in the lead with 2709 points. Tori Allen is in fourth at 2552 points.
- Hallet also qualified for Saturday's 100m hurdle final with a season-best 15.63 seconds.
- Sophomore Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) had the top qualifying time in the 400m hurdles at 1:05.20, a season mark.
- Sophomore Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) has qualified for the 100m final after running a new personal best of 12.44. She also ran a new PR of 25.97 in the 200, finishing 11th.
- Senior Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.) had the second-best qualifying time in the 400m, running a season-best 57.04. She has also qualified for the 200m final after running a new personal best of 25.55 in Friday's race.
- Freshman Madison Lyons (Manchester, Conn.) turned in a new personal best in the long jump.
- Sophomore Jia Anderson-Salo (Alstead, N.H.) had a new PR in the 10,000m.
- Freshman Jordan Wheaton (Hooksett, N.H.) just missed qualifying for the 100 hurdles final but did run to a new personal mark of 15.73 seconds.
- SNHU has won the last two NE10 Outdoor Championships.
