A strong performance on Saturday lifted Women's Track & Field into second place as the Northeast-10 Championships wrapped up in New Haven, Conn.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- A 1-2-4 finish in the 3000 steeplechase gave the Penmen 23 team points.
- The race was won by sophomore Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) in 11:44.81 (2nd fastest time in East Region). Senior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.) ran second in 11:52.73.
- Senior Riley McDermott (Kennebunkport, Maine) came in fourth in 12:14.85.
- The steeplechase trio all ran season-best marks.
- Sophomore Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) raced to victory in the 400 hurdles in a season-best time of 1:04.06 – the second-fastest time in the Div. II East Region.
- Senior Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) won the shot put at 12.70m, a new PR and third-best in the East Region.
- Graduate student Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Brooke Bibbo (Burlington, Mass.) finished sixth and seventh.
- Bibbo led the Penmen with a third-place finish in the discus throw (34.89m). Alula finished eighth in the event.
- Senior Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.) set a new PR while running second in the 400m. Her time was 56.83. Gravell also set a new PR in the 200m (25.50) finishing seventh.
- Junior Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) used a strong javelin to vault into a third-place finish in the heptathlon with 4,050 points.
- Senior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) finished in third in the 5000m, with freshman Deirdre Bailat (Billerica, Mass.) fourth.
- Senior Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) finished fourth in the event with 4,028 points.
- Hallet won the high jump at 1.60m – and the team earned 23.5 points in the event with Allen finishing tied for third with two of her teammates. Hallet was also 8th in the 100 hurdles.
- Senior Theresa Irving (Penacook, N.H.) finished tied with McInerney and Allen at 1.50m – it was a season mark for McInerney.
- Sophomore Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) came in eighth in the 100m.
- SNHU ran to a fifth-place finish in the 4x100 with Sinclair, Gravell, McInerney, and freshman Jordan Wheaton (Hooksett, N.H.) running the legs.
- The Penmen also came in fifth place in the 4x400 with Gravell, McInerney, senior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.), and sophomore Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands).
- Freshman Jia Anderson-Salo (Alstead, N.H.) earned the prestigious Elite 24 award from the Northeast-10 Conference for the top grade point average among athletes at the Championship.
NOTES
- Southern Connecticut State earned wins in both the men's and women's competitions. The men won a seventh consecutive title, and 19th in the last 20 competitions. The Owl women won the title for the first time since 2015.
- SNHU had won the last two NE10 Outdoor Championships.
- Freshman Madison Lyons (Manchester, Conn.) turned in a new personal best in the triple jump on Saturday.
- Freshman Aveline McCabe (White Bear Lake, Minn.) ran a new PR in the 5000, finishing ninth.
