MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Ray Daniels (Las Vegas, Nev.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team was named the NE10 Player of the Week on Monday for the period ending Jan. 5.
Daniels averaged 22.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting 46.9 percent from the field, including 50 percent (5-10) from downtown, and 76.9 percent at the line, during a 1-1 week for SNHU. Daniels dropped 26 points (8-18 FG, 4-7 3-FG, 6-7 FT) and made a pair of steals in an 82-74 loss to Bentley University on Thursday, before tallying 19 points (7-14 FG, 1-3 3-FG, 4-6 FT) – including 14 after halftime – five rebounds, four steals, and a pair of blocks in a 64-62 victory over No. 7/13 Pace University to hand the Setters their first loss of the season.
Daniels, who has started all 12 contests, is tallying 18.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest, while shooting 45 percent (80-178) from the field and 81 percent (43-53) at the line. He ranks fourth in the NE10 in blocks per game, fifth in scoring, sixth in field goals made and free throws made, eighth in free throw percentage and 10th in field goal percentage.
Daniels and the Penmen are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 8 (7:30 p.m.) when they visit Assumption University.
