Junior Alex Pons (Castellón, Spain) opened the floodgates just 2:30 into the contest, as the second-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team posted five first-half goals en route to a 6-0 victory over Pace University on Saturday afternoon at Ouellette Stadium.
KEY MOMENT
  • SNHU struck first midway through the third minute when freshman Sean Correia (W. Warwick, R.I.) hit a ball from the short left corner into traffic in front that a defender one-time cleared right to the foot of Pons, who ripped a shot from the middle of the box that beat the diving goalkeeper inside the right post.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked second in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, has now won four of its last five.
  • The six goals for SNHU are the most since a 6-0 victory at Assumption University on Oct. 5 of last season.
  • The Penmen took a five-goal lead into halftime for the first time since Oct. 18, 2014 when it put up six goals in the first half of an 8-1 home win over Assumption. SNHU struck five times in the second half on two occasions last season (Sept. 11 at Post University (7-0), Oct. 5 at Assumption).
  • SNHU held an 18-5 advantage in shots, including 12-1 in shots on goal.
  • This marked the first meeting between the two teams. Pace returned its men's soccer program this fall following a 35-year hiatus.
  • Graduate student Alvaro Garcia (Castelldefels, Spain) started in goal for the Penmen and did not face a shot on target in the first half. Junior AJ Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.), making his third career appearance, including first of 2025, stopped the only shot he faced in the second stanza.
  • Correia collected the first points of his collegiate career with a pair of assists.
  • Pons' goal was the first of his Penmen career.
  • Senior Tyler Kraft (Londonderry, N.H.) scored his first goal of the year and the fifth of his career.
  • Sophomore Gabriel Castro (León, Spain) scored a goal for the third straight match. He now has four on the year and seven in his career.
  • Freshman Felipe di Paola (Mar del Plata, Argentina) notched the third goal of his rookie campaign.
  • Junior Charlie Preus (London, U.K.) buried his second of the year and seventh of his career.
  • Graduate student Martin Fuentes (Pamplona, Spain) capped the scoring with his sixth goal of the season – all coming in the last seven contests. Fuentes, who has 13 career goals in two years with the Penmen, ranks second in the NE10 in goals and points (15).
  • SNHU is 153-40-29 (.755) over its last 222 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
  • The Penmen improve to 105-15-18 (.826) over their last 138 contests at home, including 43-8-11 (.782) at Ouellette Stadium. SNHU is now 14-1-3 (.861) at home over its last two seasons and is unbeaten at Ouellette in 13 straight (10-0-3).
UP NEXT
