Bentley Stuns #2 Men’s Soccer, 2-1, with Pair of Late Goals

Penmen held 1-0 lead into the 82nd minute

When and Where: October 7, 2025 – Waltham, Mass. (Bentley Soccer Field)
Score: Bentley University 2, #2 Southern New Hampshire University 1
Records: SNHU 7-1-2 (3-1-1 NE10), BU 6-1-1 (4-0-0 NE10)

Sophomore Gabriel Castro (León, Spain) opened the scoring for the second consecutive contest, but Bentley University scored twice in the final eight-and-a-half minutes to steal a 2-1 victory and hand the second-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team its first loss of 2025 on Tuesday afternoon at the Bentley Soccer Field.
KEY MOMENT
  • Castro took advantage of a free kick on the left from more than 20 yards out, bending it inside the right post and past the Bentley goalkeeper to give SNHU a 1-0 lead 19:55 into the contest.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked second in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, was unbeaten through its first nine matches for the first time since 2018 when it started the season 9-0-0 and was attempting to extend the streak to 10 for the first time since 2015.
  • Bentley, which was receiving votes in the poll last week, lengthens its own unbeaten streak to five (4-0-1).
  • Bentley only had one shot on goal entering the final 20 minutes and then generated four, including a pair that found the back of the net with 8:28 and 2:13 remaining.
  • The three shots on goal for the Penmen matched a season low (Sept. 27 at American International College).
  • Southern New Hampshire leads the all-time series with Bentley, 34-5-6, and was unbeaten in 12 of the previous 13 meetings (11-1-1). SNHU had also won five of the last six matches at Bentley, but has now dropped two of the last three – both by a single goal.
  • Graduate student Alvaro Garcia (Castelldefels, Spain) made three saves.
  • Castro's third goal of the season is the sixth of his career.
  • SNHU is 152-40-29 (.753) over its last 221 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen are back in action Saturday, Oct. 11 (1 p.m.) when they play host to Pace University on Team IMPACT, Concord Park and Rec, and Raymond Youth Soccer Day at Ouellette Stadium.
