Junior Eduardo Maia (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored his first goal as a Penmen to help the sixth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team secure a 2-1, non-conference victory over Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.
KEY MOMENT
- SNHU jumped onto the scoreboard just 10:50 into the contest when grad student Chus Ortega (Santander, Spain) sent a corner service from the left and Maia, cutting through the box from the right, re-directed the ball in at the near left post to open the scoring.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked sixth in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, has now won eight of its last nine, including five-in-a-row.
- With Bentley University's 1-0 victory at Southern Connecticut State University later Saturday clinching the Falcons the NE10 regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming NE10 Championship, the Penmen are locked into the No. 2 or No. 3 seed. They can clinch the 2-seed with a win or a tie in their regular-season finale against Assumption University on Nov. 5.
- The Penmen outshot the Wildcats, 11-6, including 2-1 in shots on target.
- Graduate student Alvaro Garcia (Castelldefels, Spain) did not make a save.
- Southern New Hampshire snaps a three-game skid against Wilmington and evens the all-times series, 4-4. SNHU defeats Wilmington for the first time since Nov. 16, 2013 (3-0) and also beats the Wildcats on their home field for the first time in three tries.
