GREENWOOD, Ind. – Sophomore Gabriel Castro (León, Spain) and junior Alex Pons (Castellón, Spain) of the sixth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team were named to the Academic All-District Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, last week.

Castro, both a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East All-Region and NE10 All-Conference First Team selection this season, is an aeronautical engineering major with a 3.88 grade-point average (GPA). Castro has scored five goals and dished an assist for 11 points, while starting all 19 matches he has played in. He tied for 10th in the NE10 in goals.

Pons, the only Penmen to start all 20 matches, was also both a D2CCA East All-Region and NE10 First Teamer this year. Pons has been a key member of a defensive unit that leads the league in goals-against average (0.90) and ranked second in goals allowed (18) at the end of the regular season. Pons, a business administration major with a 3.91 GPA, has also contributed offensively with six points on a goal and four assists.

The 2025 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists, which Castro and Greene are, are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Dec. 16.

Castro, Pons and the top-seeded Penmen host sixth-seeded Gannon University in the NCAA Championship national quarterfinals Saturday, Dec. 6 (3 p.m.) at Ouellette Stadium.
