Freshman Sam Maurice (Auburn, N.H.) carded an even-par 70 and junior Sean Dully (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) shot 1-over 71 to earn co-individual medalist honors and help the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team win the Penmen Season Finale on Wednesday at Derryfield Country Club.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
- Maurice shot his second straight 70 to finish at even-par 140, as he caught Dully, who was in second place, just one shot back, with a 1-under 69 after the opening round.
- Senior Jack Pepin (Plaistow, N.H.), who had his 2-over 72 dropped from the team score Tuesday, fired a 1-under 69 in the final round and ended up trying for third at 1-over 141.
- Freshman Andrew Surprenant (Boscawen, N.H.), who was in a five-way tie for third with an even-par 70 after the first round, penciled in a 3-over 73 to tie for eighth at 3-over 143.
NOTES
- Junior Evan Rollins (Laconia, N.H.), who led after day one with a 2-under 68, had his 12-over 82 dropped from the team score Wednesday and ended up tied for 24th at 10-over 150.
- Freshman Stephen Ramos (Danville, N.H.), playing as an individual, improved upon his opening-round score by eight shots, as he submitted a 1-under 69 and finished tied for 15th at 6-over 146.
- Sophomore Mitchell Cormier (Walpole, N.H.), also playing as an individual, shaved three shots off his first-round score with a 3-over 73 and placed 23rd at 149.
- Graduate student Alex Korkuc (So. Setauket, N.Y.), another individual, bettered Tuesday's 77 by one shot to total a 153.
- Sophomore Drew Cameron (Londonderry, N.H.), the final Penmen individual, scored a 153 (78/75).
- SNHU won by 19 shots over Dominican (N.Y.) University and Saint Anselm College (579).
- It was the fourth victory of the season for the Penmen and the first since the NE10 Championship on Oct. 8.
- Maurice's nine birdies paced the field, while Ramos and Cameron tied for fourth at six birdies each.
- The Penmen Season Finale was comprised of 36 golfers from five different institutions.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen received the automatic qualifier for winning the NE10 Championship in the fall and will take part in the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie, Pa., on May 8-10. The selections, with seeding information, will be released Friday (April 25) at NCAA.com.
