Men's Lacrosse Prevails on Senior Night, 9-6, over Franklin Pierce

Freshman PJ Cunningham Leads Team With Two Goals, One Assist

Southern New Hampshire men's lacrosse honored its seniors on Wednesday night, scoring a key Northeast-10 Conference win, 9-6, over Franklin Pierce University
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Freshman PJ Cunningham (Bronx, N.Y.) - 2 goals, 1 assist, 1 ground ball
  • Redshirt freshman Joey Gallo (Derry, N.H.) - 2 goals, 1 ground ball, 1 caused turnover
  • Freshman Blake Wozniak (Garden Grove, Calif.) - 2 goals
  • Senior Travis Brown (Windham, Maine) - 2 goals, 1 ground ball
  • Senior Patrick Cassidy (Chelmsford, Mass.) - 15 saves, win
KEY MOMENTS
  • Wozniak put the Penmen in front at 12:53 of the first quarter, scoring a man-up goal off an assist by sophomore Ryan Lynch (Derry, N.H.)
  • The Ravens would take a 2-1 lead, but the Penmen scored consecutive goals late in the period by junior Aiden Blouin (Barre, Vt.) and Gallo to make it 3-2.
  • The teams exchanged goals 40 seconds apart early in the second with Cunningham putting SNHU back in the lead.
  • Gallo tallied with 1:04 to play in the second quarter to give SNHU a 5-3 halftime lead.
  • Brown made it 6-3 off a pass from Blouin at 13:14 of the third quarter.
  • The only other goal of the period was scored by Jackson Philion of the Ravens.
  • SNHU created some breathing room with early fourth period markers by Brown and Wozniak.  Wozniak scored man-up.
  • Cunningham scored the game's final goal with 6:54 to play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Franklin Pierce took more shots (43-34) and collected more ground balls (24-15).
  • SNHU won 11 of 17 face-offs and were a perfect 21-for-21 on clears.  The Ravens were 21-of-23.
  • The Penmen were 2-for-4 in extra-man opportunities while Franklin Pierce went 1-for-6.
NOTES
  • During a ceremony prior to the game, SNHU recognized the accomplishments of its seniors, Cassidy, Gavin Kostandin (Exeter, N.H.), Christian Perez (Methuen, Mass.), Hunter Camire (Rochester, N.H.), and Brown.  Team Manager Katelyn Ditto was also recognized for her three years of service with the team.
  • The Penmen had dropped three consecutive games to nationally ranked teams.
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Franklin Pierce 24-4.  SNHU has won the last six meetings.
