MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman
Jackson Marshall (Hooksett, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was named the NE10 Northeast Division Rookie Hitter of the Year, as one of 10 Penmen to be recognized by the league office when it handed down its All-Conference awards Thursday.
Marshall, who was also honored with an NE10 All-Conference Second Team spot at first base, in addition to claiming a place on the All-Rookie Team, is the third Penmen in the last four seasons to receive the Rookie Hitter of the Year accolade (
Nater Wachter; 2024, Anthony Poole; 2022). One of three players to start all 45 games, Marshall is batting .349 (61-175) with 15 home runs, 56 RBI and 38 runs scored, while slashing .449/.680/1.129. At the close of the regular season, the five-time NE10 Rookie of the Week (Feb. 24, March 10, March 31, April 7, April 21) ranked second in the NE10 in slugging and hit by pitches (17), third in home runs, RBI and OPS, fifth in hits, and eighth in batting, on-base percentage and fielding percentage (.995).
Sophomore
Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) earned First Team honors for the second straight year as one of four outfielders, while also filling in one of the three outfield spots on the All-Defensive Team. The two-time NE10 Player of the Week (March 10, April 21) made all 45 starts and is hitting .315 (56-178) with 15 home runs, 61 RBI and 49 runs scored, while producing a slash line of .456/.652/1.108. Defensively, Wachter has made just one error in 112 chances for a .991 fielding percentage. Wachter ranked second at the close of the regular season in home runs, RBI and walks (40), fourth in slugging and OPS, fifth in runs scored, sixth in OBP, seventh in hits and stolen bases (11) and ninth in doubles (13).
Junior
Austin Trumpour (Jensen Beach, Fla.) also received a First Team nod for a second consecutive season, as one of five starting pitchers on the team. Over 12 appearances, including 11 starts, he is 5-3 with a 3.14 earned-run average, allowing 63 hits, striking out 79 and walking just 14 over 71-and-two-thirds innings. Opponents are hitting .230 against the right-hander, who owns a WHIP of 1.07. Trumpour was third in the league in strikeouts at the end of the regular season, fourth in innings pitched, fifth in opposing batting average (.223), sixth in ERA and 10th in wins.
Graduate student
Cam Varney (Manchester, N.H.) joined Wachter and Trumpour on the First Team in the lone relief pitcher spot. He is 3-2 with a conference-best seven saves and a 3.00 ERA, striking out 40 and walking 11, while yielding just 26 hits, over 36 innings. Varney, who has made a team-high 20 appearances, is limiting opponents to a .200 average, while flashing a WHIP of 1.03.
Marshall was joined on the Second Team by senior
Jancarlos Colon (Santa Isabel, P.R.) and junior
Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.). Colon, who made the team at the shortstop position in his first year with the Penmen, also landed the shortstop position on the All-Defensive Team. Colon, who has drawn all 45 starts, is hitting a team-best .352 (69-196) with one home run, 23 RBI and 52 runs scored, while going 19-for-23 stealing bases. Colon has made only four errors in 219 chances at short for a .982 fielding percentage. Colon ranked second in the league in hits, runs and assists (143) at the end of the regular season, as well as third in steals.
Risedorf landed in the lone utility spot on the team. He has started all 43 games he has played in, hitting .298 (51-171) with four home runs, 36 RBI and 39 runs scored as the team's everyday right fielder. In eight appearances on the mound, including five starts, he is 3-0 with a pair of saves and a 2.61 ERA, striking out 34 and walking 17 over 41-and-a-third innings.
Junior
Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) was one of four Third Team outfielders. Pisano has started all 22 games after missing the first 23 contests of the season due to injury. He is hitting .429 (33-77) with three home runs, 14 RBI and 17 runs scored, while slashing .521/.597/1.118.
Pisano was joined on the Third Team by sophomore
Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.), who grabbed the relief pitcher spot. Divita is 6-1 with a 3.70 ERA in 16 appearances, including one start. The April 21 NE10 Pitcher of the Week has given up just 36 hits over 41-and-a-third innings, while punching out 47 and walking 14. He ranks third in the league in wins.
Junior
Parker Lendrum (Exeter, N.H.) collected All-Defensive Team honors in the lone pitcher spot for the second straight season. Lendrum has a perfect fielding percentage in nine total chances, which includes a successful pickoff. Lendrum is 5-1 with a 4.44 ERA in nine starts, holding opponents to a .232 average in 50-and-two-thirds innings.
Freshman
Angel Baez (Leominster, Mass.) joined Marshall on the All-Rookie Team. In 16 appearances, including five starts, Baez is 3-2 with a 3.74 ERA. He has struck out 39 and allowed 40 hits over 45-and-two-thirds innings. Baez ranked eighth in both ERA and opposing batting average (.231).
The Penmen, the third seed in the Northeast Division, open up NE10 Championship Weekend at American International College's Bedard Field against AIC on Friday (May 9).
