MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University finished third in the NE10 Presidents Cup standings for the second consecutive year, the league office announced at its end-of-the-year banquet Tuesday night at Fratello's Events in the Millyard in Manchester.
SNHU, which matched its third-best finish ever from the previous year, following back-to-back Presidents Cup titles in 2021-22 and 2022-23 – collected 124.5 points, with Adelphi University capturing the cup for a second straight year with 144.5 points. Bentley University slotted in second for the second consecutive season with 143.0 points. Saint Anselm College (122.5) was just behind the Penmen in fourth, with the University of New Haven (120.5), Assumption University (116.5) and Southern Connecticut University (116.0) placing fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Franklin Pierce University (108.5) was eighth, while Pace University (80.0), Saint Michael's College (65.0) and American International College (57.5) rounded out the standings. The Presidents Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the NE10. It is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based on finishes in the regular-season standings from all of its programs competing in league championships.
Sponsoring 18 of the conference's 24 sports, the Penmen, who now have six top-five finishes in the last eight seasons, gathered 70 percent of their possible 179 points – the highest in the league. Adelphi (69%), Bentley (65%), New Haven (64%) and Southern Connecticut (64%) were the next closest. The six sports SNHU is not eligible to earn points in are the third most in the conference.
The Penmen tied for fourth in the newly-named Pioneers Cup that celebrates excellence in women's athletics, finishing with 72.5 points, while placing second in percentage (68%). Bentley won the Cup with 84.0 points and was also first at 69 percent. SNHU was sixth in the Founders Cup, which honors excellence in men's athletics, collecting 52.0 points and slotting in second in percentage (72%). Adelphi won the Cup with 62.0 points, while Southern Connecticut's 73 percent was tops.
Of SNHU's 18 squads, 16 finished sixth or better, with 11 placing in the top three and six coming in either first or second. The Penmen earned the highest number of points from field hockey (13.0), men's soccer (10.0) and women's cross country (10.0), with women's soccer (9.0), softball (9.0), men's basketball (8.5), NE10 Champion men's golf (8.0) and baseball (8.0) also contributing a high number of points.
