Graduate student Martin Fuentes (Pamplona, Spain) assisted on the match's first goal in the 18th minute and then scored the eventual game winner in the 57th, as the third-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team grabbed a 2-1 victory from American International College on Saturday night at Abdow Field.
KEY MOMENTS
  • With the score tied, 1-1, just over 11 minutes into the second half, Fuentes broke through a scrum near the top of the box, dribbled right and then chipped the ball back toward the left and over the charging American Int'l goalkeeper.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, is unbeaten through its first eight matches for the first time since 2018 when it started the season 9-0-0.
  • Southern New Hampshire leads the all-time series with AIC, 25-2-0, and extends its unbeaten streak against the Yellow Jackets to 19 (18-0-1) dating back to the 2007 campaign. SNHU is outscoring AIC, 40-10, during the 19-match unbeaten streak. The Penmen have won six straight in the series, with the last three decided by a single goal. The Penmen are also 10-1-1 on the road against American Int'l, with their last loss in the series coming Sept. 30, 2006 (2-0) in Springfield. 
  • Grad student Alvaro Garcia (Castelldefels, Spain) stopped two of the three shots he faced.
  • Senior Philipp Herrmann (Bruckmuehl, Germany) has scored a goal in seven of eight matches to begin the season and now has 26 in his Penmen career. His eight tallies lead the NE10 and are second in the country. He also paces the league in game-winning goals (3) and points (16).
  • Fuentes' fourth goal of the season is the 11th of his two-year Penmen career. He is second in the league in goals, points and assists.
  • SNHU is 151-39-29 (.756) over its last 219 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
